British Columbia is the size of the U.S.West Coast - huge! Whether it's close at hand, like Desolation Sound, or further afield, like Alert Bay (magnificent First Nation museum and totem poles), this part of Canada is a dream come true for adventuring spirits. We love to put our canoe in on Inland or Powell Lake, but there are dozens of other lakes and protected saltchuck destinations (nearby Okeover sound) that are pure pleasure to explore, again and again.

Powell River has everything consumers need: Rona Hardware, Safeway and Save-On supermarkets, Canadian Tire, Staples, Walmart, Starbucks and Tim Horton's and dozens of local specialty shops. The small Mitchell Brothers grocery at Cranberry is a special favourite of ours, with its wood floors and old-time feel and personal service. Nancy's Bakery at Lund, The renowned Laughing Oyster Restaurant  at Okeover, the Tree Frog Restaurant and the Thaidal Zone in Powell River and the 101 Hub Bistro and Shinglemill Restaurant in Townsite - plus other great owner-operated eating spots make this area a mouth-watering, gourmand experience!

Here's a small town surprise. Canada's oldest continually operating movie theatre is in Townsite / Powell River. It's had a complete renovation and now shows first-run films - in 3D! We had fresh blackened steelhead over roasted vegetables and a microbrew from the Townsite Brewery at the 101 Hub Bistro, then walked across the street to view The Great Gatsby at the Patricia Theatre. Fun! Then home in 20 minutes...

BC ferries service Saltery Bay and Powell River (from Comox on the Island) multiple times a day. The isolation is what everyone loves about Powell River / Lund! You'll want for nothing!
